The 2009-2010 Whitefish Mountain Freestyle Team is a combination of both Freestyle Skiers and Snowboarders. Utilizing both the Fishbowl Terrain Park and Freestyle Jump Hill, athletes are coached in both discipline-specific and combined settings.
Beginners focus on jumping and jibbing basics, while more experienced Freestylers focus on refining techniques and competition strategies. A progression based curriculum is employed at all levels, starting small and simple and moving to bigger and complex. Coaches are proven high-end Freestylers, combining coaching, demonstrating and competition experience. Athletes are also coached outside of the terrain park and won?t miss a powder day.
Competition is a big part of the Freestyle Team. Whitefish Mountain Resort hosts approximately 10 Freestyle events each season. Slopestyle, Rail Jams, Best Trick and X-Cross events are held locally and are relatively inexpensive. Competition participation is not mandatory, but is encouraged. Training will not be held on home competition days as all members will either compete, spectate, help out and/or cheer on teammates.
Travel, coaching and participation in regional/national events can be coordinated through the Program Supervisor and coaches. These fees are not included in the program fee.
The Weekend Program is new this year. It includes Saturday training plus terrain park coaching on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Coaches will be posted in the terrain park during these times.
The Holiday Camp (5 days) and coaching at home events are included in either program. Additional training days can be arranged with adequate interest.
The Freestyle Team is all about fun! The primary focus is having a great time, improving skills and throwing down tricks with friends. Camaraderie, sportsmanship and team dynamics are a big part of the team experience.
